Streptococcus pneumoniae cultivated on Columbia blood agar with 5% defibrinated sheep blood. Cultivation 48 hours, 37 °C in an aerobic atmosphere enriched with 5% carbon dioxide. Colonies are surrounded by a zone of alpha-hemolysis.
